The Kansas City Section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is planning
a computer camp for twenty under-privileged middle-school girls in the metro
area. The camp will provide girls with the opportunity for hands-on computer
experience and encourage them to pursue engineering and technology careers.
The program is designed to demonstrate to middle-school girls that they
possess skills needed for a technical career and provide them a base of
confidence in that arena.
Funding for the computer camp comes from the Region
VII Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor and from a grant to SWE from
Microsoft Corporation. The camp will be held on 22 September
2001 with students
identified through local school district partners.
